Thanks to ipHouse our training lab infrastructure will be built the weekend of 6/30 and go into Beta by the weekend of 6/7. We are eternally grateful for all of your contributions and continued commitment to the success of the vProfessional Program. If you would like to participate in the Beta Labs please send a request to @vcommunitytrust or an email to applications@vcommunitytrust.org. |

Which one of you would like to win the bragging rights to say that your design was selected to build the first vTrust Lab? There may even be a modest prize or two thrown in for the winner or winners!
Here's what you have to work with so far for hardware: 2 - 64 bit Nehalem based servers with dual Quad Core CPUs, 48G RAM, 300G internal storage, (6) NICs and (2) 4GB HBAs each 1 - Cisco Layer 3 3750 Switch ( Single point of failure ) 1 - FAS 3020 (SPOF) with no Disk and no FC Switch ( Help greatly appreciated whether it be in the form of cash to go to ebay or a hardware donation since we can't do much without any disk for the FAS ) 1 - Netgear 5TB ReadyNAS 1 - Iomega IX-4 4TB
As you can see there are many single points of failure, no firewalls but plenty of room for improvisation :)
The requirements are simple: Design a working lab with the components available while allowing for the simplest expansion as equipment is donated.
The vTrust Board and volunteers from the community will judge the designs and select a winner or winners on 5/15/2012.
All designs must be submitted by 4/30/2012 to challenge@vcommunitytrust.org

While we currently have not raised enough funds to pay for 3rd party training requirements, we do have a couple of VMware Workstation 7 and 8 licenses to help selected candidates begin preparing for their VCP. We will also have our lab online once we've obtained at least one FC Switch and at least one tray of disk compatible with the NetApp FAS 3020. Thank you for your support!

Many students and community members around the world that are eager to gain experience with infrastructure technologies including virtualization, compute, network and storage are currently lacking key resources including access to hands-on lab resources and affordable training materials.
While we’ve managed to maintain 0% administrative costs and overhead, made possible by Google Apps for Nonprofits and contributions from vCommunity Trust volunteers, there is still a critical gap to be filled for providing lab resources. Not only will the completion of the lab environment provide hands-on access for students and community members, but it will also provide the resources to develop essential training materials and valuable lab guides. To that end, we already have the datacenter hosting, compute and virtualization resources required for a lab which will support approximately 25 students concurrently; however, we still are lacking the storage and networking components required to make this initial lab a reality. Will you kindly help us to meet our goal of providing hands-on lab resources for 25 concurrent users as well as the foundation for providing additional training materials to the general public free of charge?
There are many ways you may contribute to this cause and we greatly appreciate your support. We will honor your gift by including your name or logo within our training materials and on our website so that our students and visitors to our site will know you’ve invested in the global community’s technical education. Contributions are welcome in the form of cash donations by mail or through our site at http://www.vcommunitytrust.org/donations, equipment donations mailed to 30883 Montclair Dr, Lindstrom, MN 55045, and/or transferring the rights of technical training materials created by you to vCommunity Trust Inc.
Your gift will have a significant impact for increasing interest, awareness and knowledge of new technologies and enable individuals from all walks of life to embark on a successful career in technology. The ability to have hands-on experience with advanced technologies, we feel, is the best way to prepare individuals for the workplace and we thank you for partnering with us and our students to make this a reality.
Sincerely,
|

In search of a NetApp DS14MK2 or DS14MK4 and a Brocade Silkworm 3800 or comparable Fabric switch. A layer 3 capable Ethernet switch is also still required. |

Jason graciously donated his time to provide us with our new logo and web banners for which we are eternally grateful :)
Thanks again Jason |

The vCommunity Trust would like to have at least 4 laptops available to provide for lab resources pending the build-out of our hosted lab. We currently have no shared storage, no network switch, and only one working server for the hosted lab. |
